

SER Adult and Youth Program and Services are dedicated to developing the skills and economic opportunities of Detroit’s community residents through a variety of training, skill enhancement courses and workshops.
Adult Programs and Services:
Regional Energy Efficiency Partnership Training Program (REEPTP): This program coordinates several partnerships – Wayne County Community College District, Detroiters Working for Environmental Justice, Labor Unions such as IBEW, DEJATC, and MLTAI to provide combined academics with green occupational skills training, on the job training, employment and apprenticeship opportunities, and support services. This unique partnership of organizations creates a pipeline of skilled workers for alternative energy job opportunities and is funded by the Department of Labor, Employment and Training Department.

Center for Working Families (CWF): Acts as an umbrella to wraparound a variety of services that can help working families get ahead by improving their financial situation on a long term basis. Employment and job services, financial education and counseling, and a number of work and financial and wealth building services are offered to help families reach financial stability and move up the economic ladder. The CWF was initiated by the Detroit Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) and United Way for Southeastern Michigan as an innovative partnership to advance community and economic development in Greater Detroit.
Jobs, Education and Training (JET) Program: Participants for JET are referred from the Department of Human Services office. JET participants receive an intensive assessment, an Individual Service Strategy plan, counseling/coaching, professional development/job readiness training, basic skills enhancement and individualized job search services. This program is funded by the Detroit Workforce Development Department.
Youth Programs
YouthBuild: This is a national program funded by the Department of Labor, Employment and Training Department and prepares low-income young people ages 18–24 who have dropped out of high school earn their GED while learning job skills by building affordable housing for homeless and low-income people. This program unites education, leadership and youth development services, along with hands-on training to assist young people become stewards of their community and pursue achievable goals that will establish a productive life.
SER Learning Academy (Alternative High School): High School Completion program for youth, ages 16-19, with a vocational component that provides training in demand occupations. Students participate in academic instruction on State approved software in a technology based classroom for half a day, and receive vocational training during the remainder of the school day. Students may elect to participate in building trades, computer technology or patient care technician training.
Youth of Promise Leadership Program: This is a Workforce Investment Act (WIA) Year Round Youth program that provides comprehensive year round services for youth ages 14-18 in high school. The program focuses on academic enrichment, tutoring and mentoring activities, leadership training and career guidance and counseling. The youth development program is based on the philosophy that youth are a Promise and that all youth possess the skills and capabilities that when nurtured, lead to many success in their lives. Students are paid a stipend for achievements. This program is funded by the Detroit Workforce Development Department.
