Let me be the first to welcome you to SER Metro-Detroit and to thank you for visiting our website.
SER Metro-Detroit began in 1971 as a small community based organization and has since evolved into a vital Detroit
resource, enhancing the lives of thousands across the city each year. Through a series of job placement and training
programs , as well as youth education initiatives SER provides Detroit residents with the skills, resources and
opportunities necessary to achieve self-sufficiency. We also strengthen the city's growing economy by connecting
Detroit businesses and corporations with employees trained to excel in their positions.
In 2004, SER partnered with Holy Cross Children's Services to make another huge impact on the city of Detroit : The
conversion of the former Mercy Hospital into the thriving Samaritan Center was accomplished through this partnership.
Housing the services of 103 community partners, the Samaritan Center represents the largest One Stop Career Center
in the country and is capable of providing literally thousands of services in one location. Furthermore, the Samaritan
Center stands as an anchor and an all-important resource for returning Detroit 's eastside to its rightful place as a
vibrant, healthy community.
Last, but certainly not least, I would like to thank the Amigos de SER — our family of corporate partners founded and
chaired by Mr. Frank D. Stella. Without the financial and in-kind support of Amigos like Ford, IBM, AT & T,
DaimlerChrysler and General Motors, among others, SER would not be the organization it is today. I would especially
like to thank The Ford Motor Company and The Ford Motor Company Fund for their $1 million investment into the
Samaritan Center , which has been used to create The Ford Wellness Center.
