SER
Jobs for Progress, Inc.
SER received a grant from the Detroit Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) in support of a workforce development
program that will help individuals move into gainful employment and achieve economic independence.  The education
component includes literacy, remediation and GED preparation which will enable individuals to pursue higher education or
post-secondary training as well as get a job, keep a job, and advance on the job.  In addition to training and employment,
the project will also teach money management skills so participants can move into sustainable self-sufficiency by making
good decisions about financial matters, and building and maintaining assets. The project involves collaboration with partner
agencies.

A national organization with a community focus, LISC is committed to transforming distressed neighborhoods into healthy
communities of choice and opportunity – good places to work, do business and raise children.   LISC is expanding its
traditional focus of working directly with community development corporations to developing partnerships with a wide range
of nonprofit and for-profit organizations that support the larger issue of comprehensive community health and sustainability.
Since 1990 Detroit LISC has invested over $100 million and leveraged an additional $675 million in funding for the
revitalization of Detroit.
LISC supports education, workforce development and financial
education.
