Renewed corporate investment, combined with a Detroit Neighborhoods Now grant awarded by the Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) enabled SER to continue to offer educational programming and to also expand the program to serve a greater number of youth and adults in need.  The program addresses the need for basic skills and educational credentials for labor market success.

LISC, Chrysler, Ford, and the Detroit News, also leveraged resources that enabled SER to receive an Adult Education contract from the Detroit Workforce Development Department to provide education services, including assessment, academic remediation and GED preparation at the Southwest One Stop Career Center.

Recognizing the return on investment that participants make into the job market and economy, these corporations renewed their investment into this important program.

The original program was sponsored by the Chrysler Foundation, Comerica, Detroit Newspaper Partnership, DTE Energy, Ford Motor Company, and the Myron P. Leven Foundation. The outcomes of this program were exceptional with more than 150 individuals served and more than 80% increasing their skills by a 2 grade levels minimum.
