CWF Acts as an umbrella to wraparound a variety of services that can help working families get ahead by improving their financial situation on a long term basis. Employment and job services, financial education and counseling, and a number of work and financial and wealth building services are offered to help families reach financial stability and move up the economic ladder.
The CWF was initiated by the Detroit Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) and United Way for Southeastern Michigan as an innovative partnership to advance community and economic development in Greater Detroit.
The Center for Working Families is one of the most popular programs at SER Metro-Detroit. This program is open to individuals and families looking to improve their overall situation and has proven to be extremely beneficial to the community.
The purpose of SER Metro-Detroit’s Center for Working Families is to help the people living in Southwest Detroit reach financial stability, self-sufficiency and advance economically. Although it is hard to believe, all services provided by the Center for Working Families, are free of charge and our bilingual staff members are always willing to assist in both, English and Spanish. Furthermore, all the services provided are intended to address immediate needs and future predictable issues. Follow up services are also provided absolutely free.
Since 2008, SER Metro-Detroit's Center for Working Families has grown to become a point of reference in the Community and beyond. Proof of our success are overall increases in net worth, dramatic decreases in debt, higher credit scores, increased number of homeowners and a decline in foreclosures. We continue to work hard for our Community, for a stronger Southwest Detroit; and we are getting there, one step at the time.
